Ministry of Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment IntroducesCohort of Youth Environmental Ambassadors under their Leaders for Environmental Action and Future Program
Basseterre, Saint Kitts, April 22, 2026 – As a part of their Earth Day celebrations, the Ministry
of Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment proudly announced the launch
of its 2026-27 cohort of Youth Environmental Ambassadors under their newly instituted Leaders
for Environmental Action and Future (LEAF) Program, welcoming a dynamic selection of
driven and ambitious youth leaders committed to advancing our Federation’s climate action,
sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
The Program brings together students aged 16-19 who, over the course of their year-long tenure
under the guidance and support of the Ministry, will participate in community outreach, and
awareness-raising and various public engagement activities designed to amplify youth voices and
involvement in national environmental action.
“Earth Day is a powerful reminder that the future of our planet depends on the actions we take
today,” said the Hon. Dr. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Environment, Climate Action and
Constituency Empowerment. “This year’s theme, Our Power, Our Planet, is a reminder that this
Earth is our shared home and by that fact, its protection requires the power of collective action.
The LEAF Program ensures that our Federation’s young people are a part of this collective. That
they are not only aware of environmental issues but are actively involved in helping to shape and
create solutions, spreading the awareness and urgency for climate action and passing this
proactivity forward to their peers. This cohort, and the LEAF initiative at large, represents the
energy, creativity, and commitment needed to drive inclusive participation.”
The Ministry invites the public to follow the ambassadors’ journeys and support their initiatives
throughout the year.
