Government to Honour National Hero Sir Robert L. Bradshaw with Prominent Statue at Fort Thomas Development
Basseterre, Saint Kitts, March 18, 2026 (PMO) – Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is advancing plans to honour the legacy of National Hero Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw through the installation of a prominent statue at the entrance of the ongoing Fort Thomas development, positioning him as a central figure within the site’s cultural and historical experience.
Speaking on Freedom FM’s Issues programme, Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew revealed that the statue will serve as a defining feature of the development, symbolically anchoring the nation’s history at the forefront of the visitor experience.
“Do you know which statue will be at the entrance? … Sir Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw… he will be this most prominent at our museum,” the Prime Minister stated.
Dr. Drew explained that the placement of Sir Robert Bradshaw at the entrance is deliberate, ensuring that all who visit the site are immediately introduced to the legacy of the man widely regarded as the architect of modern St. Kitts and Nevis.

Notably, Fort Thomas development will include a museum designed to present a comprehensive narrative of the Federation’s journey, connecting local history to regional and global contexts.
“It will be a local, regional and international aspect. But of course, our local will be most prominent there,” the Prime Minister explained.
Emphasizing the deeper purpose behind the initiative, Dr. Drew noted that the project goes beyond physical infrastructure, serving as a reflection of national identity and collective memory.
The Fort Thomas development, which also includes hotel and cultural infrastructure, is expected to enhance heritage tourism, stimulate economic activity, and strengthen national pride.
Through the prominent placement of Sir Robert Bradshaw at the entrance, the Government is making a clear and enduring statement, ensuring that the story of nation-building, leadership, and progress begins with one of the country’s most influential figures, and continues to inspire generations to come.
