Diplomatic Diversification, Sustainable Investment and Economic Empowerment guide Foreign Minister Douglas’ interactions at United Nations

New York, United Nations (26 September 2025) – The Rt Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Investment and Economic Empowerment is capitalizing on UN’s High Level Week to secure win-win geoeconomic partnerships for upward mobility. The Foreign Minister is actively pursuing cooperation agreements with colleague Foreign Ministers from Portugal, the Philippines, Singapore, Austria and Cote D’Ivoire.

The wide array of meetings focused on investment opportunities in energy, the creative economy, tourism and light manufacturing sectors. The meetings also buttressed opportunities for students to gain international experience through scholarship and fellowships to improve the Fedeation’s chances to compete in the new global economy – marked by high tech manufacturing, renewable energy and artificial intelligence.

Dr. Douglas underscored, “as we have observed tariffs and sanctions are having a serious impact on the Caribbean. We intend to be proactive and maneuver our way to a better posture and standing so that our citizens are cushioned from the volality of geopolitical and geoeconomic competition. We must build resilience and a core part of this is diversifying our diplomatic portfolio with new partners and countries.”

The Foreign Minister is being supported by Eustace T. Wallace, Minister Counselor and Mrs. Lecia Phipps, Third Secretary at the Permanent Mission of St. Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations.

The Prime Minister will champion the virtues of multilateralism, diplomacy and international engagement in his national statement on Saturday, 27th September at the United Nations.
